Investing is a world-wide practice used by people of different backgrounds and lifestyle. In the western world a huge number of people invest their money – from professional stock market players to housewives, who give their money to professional market investors. For some people this is a source of high profit, for others this is a way to protect their money from inflation.

In international financial practices there are two different ways of storing cash assets – active and passive. The passive way is when money is figuratively stuffed under the mattress or deposited in a bank account. Depositing money to a bank is virtually the same is putting it under the mattress as the interest rate offered by the bank does not cover inflation costs.  Money is losing value faster than it is growing through the bank interest rate. The reason for that is that the present world financial system is oriented on money depreciation. Money, previously being a cost preservation tool, is now turning in an instrument of loss. Therefore those who keep their savings under the mattress or in bank accounts are, as a rule, losing a part of their capital. This loss does not happen quickly but at a slow and steady pace. One of the ways around this is investment. Some investors prefer to deal with investments on their own. Those who do not have enough money or experience to form their own investment portfolio and manage it themselves prefer to entrust it to professionals.
